We have heard stories – or even experienced it personally – where someone is behind the wheel and driving dangerously. This includes speeding, tailgating, talking on a cell phone, texting, taking their hands off the wheel, and nearly colliding with guardrails or other vehicles. If you ever find yourself in this situation, we have some advice for you.
Absolutely! We may be afraid to hurt someone’s feelings, but safety always comes before polite etiquette. If you feel like you are in danger, please speak up! The driver might not even realize that their driving style is leaning towards the dangerous end of the spectrum, and they might try to make more of a conscientious effort to be careful if you say something.
If your travel companion does not find their driving habits/style dangerous, or if they laugh at your concerns (are you sure you even want to stay friends with them?), then offer to do all of the driving during your next road trip. You can drive at a pace and style that is comfortable for you.
If your friend will not agree to this plan, then it might be time for a new travel companion – and never get inside a vehicle with them again!
