Tips for Clearing Out Your Garage and Organizing It

With the ongoing quarantine, many folks are taking the time to organize and declutter their home and garage. Cleaning the garage can be an extremely daunting task, but luckily we have some tips for you!

First things first, clear out your whole garage as best you can and decide what you need to keep. Place the “to keep” items in piles based on what they are needed/used for, such as car care, gardening, etc.

Next, do some serious recycling. Let go of all those Amazon boxes from past orders, along with those piles of aluminum cans and glass bottles. Going forward, mount a can crusher to the wall with a box on the floor (one of those Amazon boxes is perfect) to help keep the space devoted to used cans in your garage to a minimum and recycle once the box is full.

To keep your yard maintenance tools organized and easy to grab when needed, mount hooks and prongs on the walls and hang up those rakes, shovels, brooms, etc.

Invest in a couple of shelving units from your local home improvement store like Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Menards. These are perfect for storing tools, gardening equipment, automotive supplies, holiday dĂ©cor, and outdoor gear.

Speaking of outdoor gear, consider hanging bikes, kayaks, and other large yet lightweight items from the ceiling using specialty hooks and straps.

Once all this is done, you should be able to comfortably park your vehicle in the garage with plenty of room to spare!
