Winter Tires vs All-Season Tires – Which do You Need?

Differences Between All-Season and Winter Tires

If you’re driving a vehicle that features all-season tires, you might think you will be fine during winter. Surely, they’re just as good as winter tires, correct? Well, not necessarily. Continue reading below in order to find out more!

Sacrificing for Good Performance Overall

The truth is that all-season tires spend too much in order to have good overall capabilities. They need to tackle both summer and winter, after all, and as such, there have to be compromises between the two seasons. They won’t have the same amount of grip as winter tires, or the handling and control of summer ones. They’re sort of like tennis shoes – you can wear them all year round, but they’re not that idea for deep snow or a hot beach.

If you’re living in moderate climates, with mild winters and summers, they’re perfect. But if you’re living in an area that experiences the extremes of both spectrums? Not so much.

Winter & Snow Tires and Winter Engineering

Winter tires are, as you can expect, designed to fulfill one purpose – to tackle winter conditions and roads. That means that they’re perfectly suited to handle the ice and snow without fail, utilizing superior tread depth, patterns, biting edges, and tread rubber to do so. This makes winter and snow tires the best solution for those that live in areas that experience the harshness of winter.

And, really, that’s the truth of the comparison – where you live. If you’re in an area that experiences mild winters, all-seasons will cut it. In contrast, if you’re living in an area with harsh winters, you might want to get a set of snow or winter tires instead.
