A decade ago, when Ford's European division got all the good stuff, a car like the Ford Fusion wouldn’t even be seen in America. 

Sharing most of its parts with the decorated Euro-market Mondeo, the Fusion has more recently been Ford’s strongest model in making an all-out assault on the midsize sedan segment. Created to compete against the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the Ford Fusion has been doing just that – and quite well.

When it comes to performance, from the peppy, fuel-efficient turbocharged models to the incredibly fuel-efficient Hybrid, the Fusion lineup performs well on the road.  In the 2014 model year, the vehicle featured a 2.5 liter, four-cylinder, 175 horsepower base engine.  Overall, car reviewers were taken by the Ford Fusion’s power and handling on the road. 

For buyers looking for more power, there’s also an optional 181 horsepower 1.5-liter or 240-hp 2.0-liter turbo. 

Both models are linked to a six-speed automatic with front- or all-wheel drive and both provide very good fuel economy. The Fusion S and SE lines offer 22 miles per gallon in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

Along with their traditional vehicles, the Ford Fusion comes in two hybrid models, each featuring a 2.0-liter paired with an electric motor for a combined 188 horsepower.

Fuel economy varies depending on the model you choose, but all offer commendable fuel economy.  With the Fusion Hybrids, you can expect anywhere from 39 to 47 mpg in the city and on the highway, with a respectable 22/34 mpg delivered on the non-hybrid models.
